PIONEERS OPEN '22-23 CAMPAIGN 3-0
The William Paterson University Ice Hockey team opened up the 22-23 campaign with 3 wins vs NJ foes. The Pioneers defeated Montclair State and The College of New Jersey twice in the opening weekend. On Thursday, September 15th the Pioneers piled up 60 shots on goal to tame the Redhawks 5-2. Freshman, Thomas Swartwout (Brick, NJ) had 4 points and a highlight reel goal to lead the way. On Friday, September 16th the Pioneers hosted The College of New Jersey in game one of a two game weekend series. The Pioneers offense was firing on all cylinders with Adam Marvin (New City, NY) leading the way with a hat trick. The Pioneers walked away with a decisive 7-2 win in front of the home fans. Several hours later, the Pioneers and TCNJ were back at it for a Saturday matinee in Lawrenceville, NJ. The Pioneers finished off the weekend with a 5-3 road victory and three game sweep. The new head coach of the Pioneers, Kyle Garlasco, and his staff of David Hefferan and Thomas Bauer picked up their first win behind the Pioneers bench. Garlasco noted, “It was nice to get back to competitive action this weekend. Starting the season with a three game weekend allowed the guys to jump right into the swing of the season. I was happy to see the effort up and down the lineup and excited for the season ahead.”
The Pioneers are back in action next weekend with two road games. They kick off ECHA action at Lehigh on Friday, September 23 and take on Drexel in Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, September 24.
